Brick Township

Brick Township is the third most populous municipality in Ocean County with numerous neighborhoods on the mainland surrounded by waterside communities along the Metedeconk River, Manasquan River, Barnegat Bay, Beaverdam Creek, and Atlantic Ocean. Besides the variety of fishing, crabbing, and boating to enjoy, the township maintains nearly a dozen community parks and three public beaches on the Atlantic Ocean. You can skate at the Ice Palace, walk the 1.6-mile paved path around the Brick Reservoir or hit the links at the Ocean County Golf Course at Forge Pond. Employing many residents is Hackensack Meridian Ocean University Medical Center, a short-term acute care teaching hospital. Brick also has several popular adult communities.

A portion of the Barnegat Peninsula which divides the Barnegat Bay from the Atlantic Ocean is governed by Brick Township and largely inhabited by summer people. The Brick section on this barrier peninsula starts at Curtis Point, directly south of Mantoloking Borough, and ends at 6th Avenue in Normandy Beach. These small beach colonies such as Mantoloking Shores and Deauville Beach, all have “Mantoloking” mailing addresses even though they are part of Brick Township.

Accessible via the Mantoloking Bridge, are communities on the south bank of the Metedeconk River off Mantoloking Road. These neighborhoods began as popular sites for lodges and summer camps. For example, NEJECHO Beach was originally the New Jersey Episcopal Choir Camp. Today these charming villages are dotted with bungalows amongst the grander riverfront homes. Neighborhood associations like Sandy Point, Breton Woods, and Cape Breton have private beaches, clubhouses, and boat slips available to members. The Metedeconk River Yacht Club offers sailing, swimming, and social activities for adults and children.

Further south are neighborhoods on the Barnegat Bay with an extensive network of lagoons and coves. Cherry Quay is on the north side of Kettle Creek where several tributaries converge. Entrance to the Edmund H. Hibbard Park is on Cherry Quay Road where you’ll find pedestrian/bike paths throughout the adjacent conservation areas, or by boat. Cherry Quay has its own association with a private bayfront beach, boat launch and playground. South on Drum Point Road is entry to Baywood, Seaview Harbor and Shore Acres coastal communities. There are parks and marinas plus the Shore Acres Yacht Club on the Barnegat Bay.

Princeton Avenue is on the north side of the Metedeconk River with an expansive stretch of prestigious waterfront homes that continue along the Barnegat Bay and into lagoons within North and South Drives. Cedarcroft is a quaint village on the west end of Princeton Avenue with homes on the river and Beaverdam Creek. Cedarcroft has a riverfront clubhouse, beach, and boat slips. Windward Beach Park is also located on Princeton Avenue with a river beach, playground, fishing/crabbing pier, bocce courts, horseshoe pits, and gazebo. The park hosts summer concerts, fireworks, farm/craft markets and festivals throughout the year. Nearby Midstreams is a peaceful area with waterfront homes on the north branch of the Beaverdam Creek.

The Herbertsville section of Brick is home to the historic Havens Homestead Farm and museum which showcases what life was like in the mid-1800’s. The east end of the Manasquan River near Herbertsville Road is Riviera Beach. As you head west, the riverbanks become elevated and there are eagles nesting on the bluff at Turkey Point. Here the river is more tranquil, and as you kayak through the Narrows, you will revel in the sights and sounds of eagles soaring above.
