Point Pleasant Boro

Point Pleasant is tucked between the shores of the Manasquan River and the Barnegat Bay. Early settlers were mainly fishermen, farmers, and boat builders. Today, the families who live here and the people who visit have a strong connection with the water. The Point Pleasant canal divides the town in half and connects the Barnegat Bay with the Manasquan River, providing boat passage to the Intracoastal Waterway and Atlantic Ocean.

A sought-after area to live in Point Pleasant is “east of the canal,” which means folks residing on the east side of the canal can access Atlantic Ocean beaches without traveling over a bridge. Lovelandtown was the first community settled in Point Pleasant and is generally defined as east of the canal and south of Bridge Avenue. It bears the name of its founder, Charles Loveland, whose family produced a long line of baymen proficient in boat building, fishing, decoy carving, guiding, and gunning.

Many desirable neighborhoods west of the canal offer homes on or near the water including Bay Head Shores, Sunshine Harbor, and the Riverfront Park section. Point Pleasant’s Riverfront Park is set on the Manasquan River and includes a beach, playground, open field, bocce, fishing and walking piers. Across from the park is a small island known as “Treasure Island,” a popular destination for many boaters, kayakers, and paddle boarders. The Bay Head Shores community offers lagoon and bay front living plus optional membership to its property association where you can enjoy socializing at the clubhouse, lounge, beach, and tennis courts on the north end of the Barnegat Bay.
